Subaru Outback vs. Honda CR-V
Performance
Every new Subaru Outback model comes with a Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system. It actively sends power to all four-wheels and will automatically divert the power to the wheels with the most traction if any should slip, letting you traverse bad weather conditions and rough terrain off-road with the utmost control and grip. The new Honda CR-V lineup comes with standard front-wheel drive, which could leave you wanting for more when your wheels start slipping. All-wheel drive is available on all CR-V models, but at a higher price.
The new Honda CR-V lineup has a stronger standard engine than the Outback does, with a standard 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 191-horsepower and 179 pounds-feet of torque. The Outback falls slightly short with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 182-horsepower and 176 pounds-feet of torque. However, the Outback lineup is split in half, with the higher trims coming with a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 260-horsepower and 277 pounds-feet of torque, allowing you to enjoy a stronger and sportier driving experience than in the CR-V.
The new Honda CR-V lineup offers slightly higher fuel economy numbers than the Subaru Outback does, but the Outback has a 16.6 gallon tank that you can fill up, compared to a 14 gallon tank on the CR-V, letting you travel further around Palo Alto on a full tank in the Outback.
Interior and Features
The new Subaru Outback offers more space for your passengers to stretch out and relax on trips around Atherton than the Honda CR-V. The Outback offers 109 cubic feet of passenger volume, compared to 105.6 cubic feet in the Honda CR-V.
Both the Subaru Outback and the Honda CR-V lineups come with a standard infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility that lets you connect and control your smartphone and many other vehicle features on a convenient touchscreen. The Outback and the CR-V both have a standard 7-inch touchscreen on the Base model. However, all other Subaru Outback models come with a larger 11.6-inch vertical touchscreen display, providing you with easy control of calls, apps, messages, maps, and much more. The Honda CR-V has the 7-inch touchscreen on multiple trims, with an available 9-inch touchscreen as the largest option.
Safety Features
The Subaru Outback and Honda CR-V lineups both have a suite of helpful driver assistance features, but only the Subaru Outback comes with standard steering responsive LED headlights that turn in the direction of the wheel, helping you see better around corners.
