Subaru recently introduced its first-ever EV to the Mountain View area. The Subaru Solterra is an electric EV with a competitive range and many driver-assistance features. Like many Subaru SUVs, it comes with standard all-wheel drive. The new Solterra has decent off-road chops, including more ground clearance.
Performance
The electric powertrain features twin electric motors and a battery pack that produce up to 215 horsepower and 249 pound-feet of torque. The new Subaru Solterra offers drivers four drive modes to give them more control over the driving dynamics. Drivers can enjoy light off-roading thanks to the 8.3 inches of ground clearance. Paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel help adjust power from regenerative braking. The new Subaru Solterra accelerates relatively fast and delivers a pleasant ride and sharp handling.
A DC-fast charging station can recharge the Solterra to 80 percent in less than one hour. Hooking up the Solterra to a Level 2 charger takes about nine hours for a full charge, making it perfect for overnight charging. The electric range for the Touring and Limited models is estimated at 222 miles, while the Solterra Premium can travel for up to 228 miles. The Subaru Solterra has an estimated combined fuel economy of 104 MPGe.
Design and Tech
The new Subaru Solterra features bold exterior styling with plenty of black plastic cladding. It has a minimalist interior design with comfortable front seats. Top models offer upscale features like a heated steering wheel and ventilated front seats. The infotainment system is straightforward, with many features like wireless smartphone connectivity. Drivers around Mountain View can enjoy numerous safety systems like a blind-spot monitor, front cross-traffic alert, automatic reverse braking and adaptive cruise control.
