Subaru Crosstrek vs Chevy Trax: Dimensions & Capacity

The 2019 Subaru Crosstrek is one of the most spacious crossover SUVs on the market today, with 100.9 cubic feet of passenger volume. The 2019 Chevy Trax, by comparison, has just 92.8 cubic feet. This means that, if you choose the Subaru Crosstrek, you'll get more front headroom, front and rear legroom, and front and rear shoulder room.

You'll also have more space for all your stuff in the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek. It comes standard with 20.8 cubic feet of cargo space. Fold down the rear seats and you can get up to 55.3 cubic feet! This is more than the Chevy Trax, which has just 18.7 cubic feet of cargo space and 48.4 cubic feet with the second row folded. What's more, the Subaru Crosstrek comes standard with roof rails that are perfect for carrying bikes, kayaks, and other larger cargo. These are a more expensive upgrade on the Chevy Trax.

Subaru Crosstrek vs Chevy Trax: Technology & Comfort

Subaru continues to have an edge when it comes to technology. Take the audio systems, for example. In the Subaru Crosstrek, you can upgrade to an eight-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. Seven speakers are the most you'll find in the Chevy Trax.

The Subaru Crosstrek is also better at keeping you comfortable at a lower price. Heated front seats are standard on all but the entry-level Subaru Crosstrek. If you want the same features in the Chevy Trax, you have to choose the top-of-the-line model. You also won't find real leather-trimmed upholstery in the Chevy Trax. The Subaru Crosstrek, by comparison, has available leather-trimmed upholstery with distinctive orange stitching.

Subaru Crosstrek vs Chevy Trax: Performance

One of the biggest differences between these two SUVs is that every Subaru Crosstrek comes standard with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. Front-wheel drive is standard for the Chevy Trax, with AWD being a pricey upgrade. And with 8.7 inches of ground clearance, the Subaru Crosstrek is great for exploring the great outdoors. That's a little harder to do in the Chevy Trax, which has just 6.2 inches of ground clearance. But that's just the beginning when it comes to performance.

The Chevy Trax is powered by a turbo engine that puts out 138 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque. By comparison, the SUBARU BOXER® engine that powers the Crosstrek generates 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque! But the Subaru Crosstrek isn't just more powerful: it also gets better gas mileage when both SUVs are comparably equipped. With all-wheel drive and automatic transmission, the Chevy Trax gets up to 29 miles per gallon. A 2019 Subaru Crosstrek with automatic transmission gets up to 33 mpg!

Subaru Crosstrek vs Chevy Trax: Safety

Subaru takes your safety very seriously, and it shows. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is an independent, nonprofit organization that rates vehicles for safety. Every year, it gives out awards--and the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek earned its 2019 Top Safety Pick+, the most prestigious award IIHS gives. The 2019 Chevrolet Trax, on the other hand, didn't earn any IIHS awards at all. The 2019 Subaru Crosstrek continues to add innovative safety features like Steering Responsive Headlights, which make night driving even safer. This is a feature you won't find on any 2019 Chevy Trax.

Subaru Crosstrek vs Chevy Trax: Driver Assist Technology

Subaru EyeSight® is an innovative suite of safety features, and it's available on even the entry-level Subaru Crosstrek. You'll find features like lane departure warning on the Chevy Trax, as well--but not on the entry-level model. Features like Adaptive Cruise Control and pre-collision braking, available on the Subaru Crosstrek, are completely absent from the Chevy Trax.
