2019 Subaru Ascent vs 2019 Subaru Outback Exterior Style

2019 Subaru Ascent vs 2019 Subaru Outback: Size

The Subaru Outback is a distinctive vehicle: it's essentially an AWD wagon that has been lifted and made rugged enough for off-road exploration. Its 108.1 cubic feet of passenger volume can comfortably fit up to five people. The 2019 Subaru Ascent is a three-row SUV, so it can seat up to eight people with 153.5 cubic feet of standard passenger volume. The 2019 Subaru Outback comes with a bigger standard cargo area; however, when you fold the rear seats down, the Subaru Ascent has more maximum cargo space. What's more, both vehicles come with roof rails, so you can carry extra cargo and gear.

2019 Subaru Ascent vs 2019 Subaru Outback: Features

These two vehicles are made by Subaru, so they naturally come with high-quality features like cargo-area underfloor storage and STARLINK™ Multimedia, complete with Bluetooth®, Apple CarPlay™, and Android™ Auto capability. The Subaru Ascent does, however, come with available 4G LTE Wi-Fi, which isn't an option on the 2019 Subaru Outback. Additionally, while dual-zone automatic climate control is available on the Subaru Outback, tri-zone automatic climate control comes standard on the 2019 Subaru Ascent.

2019 Subaru Ascent vs 2019 Subaru Outback Interior Design

2019 Subaru Ascent vs 2019 Subaru Outback: Performance

The Subaru Outback and Subaru Ascent both come with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive for exceptional traction. What's more, standard X-MODE®, Hill Descent Control, and 8.7 inches of ground clearance make off-road exploration a breeze. They are both also powered by SUBARU BOXER® engines, and this is where the differences come in.

The standard turbocharged BOXER® engine in the Subaru Ascent is more powerful than the standard engine in the Subaru Outback. However, the Subaru Ascent also weighs more--almost a thousand pounds more, as a matter of fact. This means that the performance of the standard engines is pretty similar. If you want even more power, the Subaru Outback has an available 256-horsepower six-cylinder BOXER® engine. That's almost as much power as you'll get in the Subaru Ascent, and on a much lighter vehicle!

2019 Subaru Ascent vs 2019 Subaru Outback Features

2019 Subaru Ascent vs 2019 Subaru Outback: Value

These vehicles are both incredibly capable. However, looking at price can often help determine which one is right for you. The Subaru Ascent has a starting MSRP that's over $5,500 more than the starting MSRP of the Subaru Outback. If you need the third row, it's an impressively well-priced vehicle. However, if you only need two rows, or if you're looking for a brawnier drive with an available six-cylinder engine, the Subaru Outback is a perfect match.
